3rd place: "Grey new world", Photography by Thomas HUPPERTZ

Category Prize of the Jury, 1st place: "Human Virus II", Cyanotype, Watercolour (based on own photography) by Juliane VOWINCKEL

The beautiful things in life are simple. But what about the more complex matters, like admiring nature without destroying it? Juliane Vowinckel's work "Human Virus II" impressively shows how we humans are torn between the intention to protect nature and the reality of destroying it. Does the woman bend over the corals as if they were balcony plants or heads of lettuce at the farmer’s market to tend them, or does she pluck them off?

Category Prize of the Jury, 2nd place: "Ohne Titel", Material-Collage/ Mixed Media (Naturschwamm, Stoff, Stempelfarbe) by Laura SEVILLA

Being interwoven with each other, even under water. Laura Sevilla's mixed media collage makes us aware of how much we humans are intertwined with nature, how far we have penetrated it. We have to get to grips with climate change, as something that it is happening here and now and for which we bear responsibility.

Category Prize of the Jury, 3rd place:
"Grey new world", Photography by Thomas HUPPERTZ

O, wonder! How many goodly creatures are there here! How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world, that has such people in’t!“ is said in Shakespeare's drama "The Tempest". There is no trace of Shakespeare's "brave new world" in Thomas Huppertz's "grey new world".
Born in 1975, the violinist in the orchestra of the Hanover State Opera, Thomas Huppertz, has been taking photographs for 30 years. Behind the coral, held by a human hand, a dominant background emerges in his work: The Industrial Revolution, which we often consider as the starting point for climate change. The phrase "How beauteous mankind is" ultimately pales before the dreary sight of the faded coral.

O, Wunder!
